John 3:16 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
In our minds, we look at love in many different ways depending on the situation or context. We may say that we love a family member, our pet, a sports team, or a certain type of food. That is not the same as Godly love.
Godly love, or Agape love, means sacrifice. This is the type of love God has for us. He is our example of how to love others. He gave the greatest sacrifice of all in giving us His Son. In return, He tells us to give our all for others.
John 15:13 (KJV)
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
This type of selfless love shows itself through actions. The things we do for others is usually what makes the biggest impression. We should constantly be striving to show others this type of sacrificial love. Christ gave His all for us on the cross. He knew we didn’t deserve it, and He also knew many would deny Him, but He died anyway. Just like Jesus did, we should give our all to others without expecting anything in return.
