Amos 7:7-9
7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said theLord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
In these verses we see Amos standing by a wall that was straight or “plumb” according to God’s own measure. God has a standard for all of us. It is His Word. We see God is very plain on what he expects. There is no grey area in God’s plumbline. He also states what will happen if they are not applied.
No wonder there is such a decline in our nation and our families today. We have not been using God’s plumbline to set our standards. Our families are falling apart which has caused our nation to deteriorate. It will only continue to get worse until God’s standards are applied.
So what can we do as God’s people? First, we need to make sure we have our lives measured to God’s plumbline. Second, we need to continue to share our story with others. We need to let them know what Jesus has done for us. The only hope for our families and our nation is if God’s people take a stand. It is time for us to examine our lives, so we can be effective in advancing God’s Kingdom.
