“And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord God, when the Lord hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord God.” Ezekiel 22:28-31
This verse makes me sad. God sought for just one man and could not find him. Yesterday we celebrated Memorial Day. We honored all those who died standing in the gap for us.
Think about all the many men and woman who chose to serve. I know some of them were drafted at one point but today it is completely voluntary. They spend time preparing and training to stand in the gap. Then they put all that preparation into action. They take orders, follow plans and confront danger for all of us. They sacrifice themselves to protect our freedoms.
There was one man who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus Christ stood in the gap for all of mankind. He made the decision to come down from heaven. Jesus prepared for His mission while on earth by taking orders, following the plan, and finally confronting danger. He stood on the front line, becoming the propitiation or the atoning sacrifice for us.
Jesus has put a call out to us. Luke 9:23, “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
We are to become soldiers for Him. 2 Timothy 2:1-4, “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
So if God sought one man today, would He find you standing in the gap?
This is excellent!
