How many of us put stuff in the closet to hide it? Someone may be coming over, so you find the nearest closet to shove everything behind a closed door. Maybe it isn’t a closet, but a full room that becomes the collect all.
This month, I have been working on my junk room. It is a bonus room above our garage and it has become the collect all. When we moved in two years ago, all the boxes went in there. There are boxes that still haven’t been unpacked, plus all the stuff that I’ve added over the last two years. Now you have to weave yourself through the room like a maze just to find something.
My goal for the month is to reorganize this room. It has been very challenging, but also very rewarding to get part of it done. I still have a long way to go in the next couple weeks.
Just like our closets at home needing to be uncluttered, our spiritual closets need to be cleaned out also. Hidden sin will destroy our lives, from the inside out. We need to get rid of old baggage we may be carrying around with us. Maybe we are harboring unforgiveness and bitterness over past hurts.
We need to spend some time with God asking Him to help us search our spiritual closets and finally throw out all that clutter that keeps us from growing. We can’t keep that stuff hidden and expect God to bless us. We have to admit it, seek His forgiveness, and get rid of it.
Psalm 32:3-5 (KJV)
3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
