Psalm 139:23-24 (KJV)

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Now what? Maybe you opened the closet door and then closed it really quick. Or maybe you cleaned it out and now you have all this stuff sitting in piles staring at you. That is what I did. I had piles of stuff and almost let myself get overwhelmed. But I made the decision to focus and get through it.

I started by sorting the piles. Things I definitely needed to keep, things I could throw out, things I could donate or sell, and then, of course, the “not sure” pile. It is hard to let go of stuff sometimes. We hold on to them thinking we need them for some reason or another. My logic is, if you haven’t used it or touched it in about 6 months, well you probably don’t need it.

After you sort through everything and get it organized, then you can begin to see all you have accomplished. It is the same in our spiritual life.  We keep things bottled up inside ourselves. Sometimes it bubbles out just like it does when you open a closet door and everything falls out.

We need to organize it and sort it just the same. There are things that need to be thrown out of our hearts so God can use us. As the above verse says, we need to ask God to search us and help us to sort the piles and throw out what needs to be thrown out.

It won’t be easy, but letting go never is. Just find comfort in the fact that the rewards are so sweet.
