Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

Last week, we discussed those that come and warn us of pitfalls. This week, I thought we would discuss what happens when we don’t heed the warnings. Our pastor did a message a year ago about this very thing using this verse.

He talked about drifting too far from shore. When we drift, it requires no effort from us. We just continually go in the wrong direction. We should be fighting our way upstream instead of drifting backwards. When we continue to drift, it always leads to a shipwreck.

What are the signs that we may be drifting away from God? We tend to have a diminishing desire to study or pray. We fail to share the gospel with others more often than not as we continue to seek after worldly pleasures. Do you find yourself drifting? Don’t fear, there are things you can do to change your course.

If you are going to continue moving upstream, you need to keep rowing. This requires keeping focused on God. The best way to do that is to pray without ceasing and continue sharing Jesus with others.

Our challenge this week is to heed to the warnings and keep ourselves from drifting in the wrong direction.
