Matthew 5:8 (KJV)
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
The fifth beatitude hits pretty hard. I think of pure as something untarnished or something clean. So, what does this verse mean? We have to be clean if we want to see God?
I think it goes back to our salvation. The only way to have a clean heart is to accept Jesus as our saviour and repent. Will we mess up now and then? Absolutely! But, God is patient with us and long-suffering towards us. We just have to go to Him when we mess up.
God is the only one who can clean our hearts. Think about David, he asked God to clean his heart in Psalm 51:10.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Once we are saved, we then need to work on having a life focused on God. Are you saved? Are you living for Jesus? If we are saved, we will see Jesus when we die. If we are living for Jesus, we will see Him every day in the blessings around us.
