Psalm 78:4
We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
We recently received some exciting news! We are going to be grandparents! I couldn’t be happier for our daughter and son-n-law. They are going to be wonderful parents and the child is going to have so many people in his or her life to love and spoil them.
So this is a new chapter in our lives. It is fun and exciting to walk through the baby section now and look at all the cute stuff and wonder if we will be buying blue or pink. Then there is the question of what do we want to be called. That one is tough. I know it sounds silly but the first grandchild determines what you will be called the rest of your life.
Have you ever thought about that? Each chapter in our lives we seem to get a new name. We start out being called our actual name or nickname. Then when you get married we may become something like Babe, Darling, or Sweetheart. When we become parents it changes to mom and dad. Then the grandkids come along and you become grandma and grandpa.
I have such fond memories of my grandparents and they were all called something different. When I hear Grandma I think of my dad’s mom or my husband’s grandmother, who holds a special place in my heart. When I hear Grammie, I think of my mom’s mom. I want my grandchild to think back on me with fond memories also.
My heart is so overwhelmed with joy! I pray that I will follow the verse above and always share His wonderful works with them.
So what are we going to be called for this next chapter of life? My husband wants to be Papa. And me? Well, I’m still working on it.
