That is a scary word! Be honest. We all try to run from commitment. We don’t want to be in charge of something or take on another position. We are busy. That will take time, energy, and focus that we don’t have. That is always our excuse. But if we are excited about something we have no problem committing to it and putting all of our time, energy and focus into it. Let’s get excited about our marriages!
Yes, it will be work. Yes, it will require sacrifices. What better place to spend that time, energy and focus on? God gave us a job and we are to give our all.
Genesis 2:24King James Version (KJV)
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
We have to have a common commitment with our spouses. We must always protect and guard that commitment. It is not a one-time thing. It is on-going. We have to commit daily to strengthen our marriages.
Spend time together. Tell your spouse how committed you are to your marriage and then show them in your actions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Seek out another couple you trust and respect, ask them to be prayer partners and accountability partners with you. You are not alone. We all struggle.
I know it is difficult at times, but just try it. Put 100% into your job that God gave you and see how it changes your spouse. Don’t expect instant changes either. Just keep doing your part and watch God work.
