Matthew 5:5 (KJV)
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the meek…..what do you think that means? The word meek to most people means weak. But, I think there is more to it. Let’s look at our greatest example, Jesus.
Matthew 11:29 (KJV)
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Jesus was meek and lowly in heart. Jesus definitely was not weak! Think about it. Jesus had self-control. He was God and Man at the same time. Jesus could have called down the angels at any time. Yet, He willingly went to the cross for us. That took self-control.
Jesus is telling us to be gentle and soft but have self-control. We have to be willing to get our minds under control, have a soft heart and submit to God. Obedience is what God is looking for.
It is never weak to have self-control. There are times when we should bite our tongue. That takes self-control. There are times when we want to throw something, out of frustration. It takes self-control not to. The next time you think of meek as weak, remember Jesus. There was nothing weak about Him.
